I’ve been wanting to make a set of junk journals that are fun to create, easy to use and not too big, so I can carry them around with me in my handbag, if I choose.
So, this will be the first journal in an exciting new series where I will be making a one signature junk journal for each month of the year. I will refer to them as "Signature Journals" as they will each have only one signature.
The journal for each month will have a different theme and colour scheme. I am very excited to start this series where I will be showing lots of fun and easy techniques to use in a junk journal. I hope you will want to make some of these for yourself.
Junk Journal Pages
Here are a selection of paper that I have used to make the forest fairies junk journal.
The first two pages are stencilled baking/parchment papers.
This is one of two triple-panel pages. I made these pages, sewing panels of different papers with torn edges together, because I wanted to create unique and fanciful pages for this fairy-themed journal.
This is one of the smaller pages with torn edges, created from art paper. I sprayed on different coloured inks then dropped grains of instant coffee granules into the wet ink in different areas, the coffee melted and spread creating a pattern. When the paper had dried, I then sprayed water over the paper and splattered on some white acrylic paint.
I wanted to include certain elements to each of my journals, that co-ordinated with the theme and colour scheme of each journal. These included a calendar - which I use not only to track the days but also to record the weather for each day of the month, as it's a favourite past time of mine.
In order to continue my plan to focus on self-care this year, I decided to include a monthly mood chart. This way, I can keep a visual track of my moods and it will also encourage me to work in my journals more often. I also intend to make a short entry, explain why I was in a particular mood, for each day. I've never been very good at writing in my journals consistently, so this is my attempt to change that.
Another page I have included in each journal is a notes page, one notes page for each week in the month. I am currently go through a long term treatment of physiotherapy to help me get back the full use of my legs, as my knees have complex structural injuries and I am looking at double knee replacement surgeries in the near future. I hope to avoid or at least prolong that situation by doing physio treatments instead. I am using the notes to record how my treatment is progressing throughout this year.
